For the first couple of weeks in October, my parents came to visit! It was great to see them and show them around Santa Fe (though they'd visited here several times before I moved here). They stayed in a little casita near the Plaza. You can see the awesome/strange cowhide chairs that came with their place in the foreground:
The first weekend that they were here, we went to Rancho de las Golandrinas, which is a living history museum south of Santa Fe. The Rancho was the best camping/trading post between Santa Fe and La Cienega back in the 1600s.
While we were there, the harvest festival was going on, so there were many demonstrations, including wine stomping (which I participated in), weaving, and bread baking.
There were tiny horses for Stoops to pet:
And a couple of blacksmiths selling their wares:
My parents went up to the ski basin to look at the aspens that grow up there. Here is the view of the aspens from the road to the ski basin. They really were just as bright as the picture shows (no photoshop!)
They also went to Pecos Trail National Historic Site, though I didn't join.
We ate lots of delicious New Mexican food. However, we decided to check out the rooftop pizzeria on the plaza one night and got really great views of the city and sunset.
We took a trip to Bandolier National Monument and had some great selfie opportunities:
We were surprised by (or perhaps we surprised) a big horn sheep! After doing some research, we learned that a heard of bighorn have recently been reintroduced to the Bandolier area, which is why the sheep was wearing a radio collar.
To be continued...
